Joshua Freeman

Joshua is a trusted-adviser and experienced litigation counsel. He delivers timely, pragmatic and practical advice to ensure sound and strategic decision-making. Joshua relies on keen business acumen and advanced critical and logical reasoning skills to assess, analyze and opine on risk and opportunity and to help clients achieve their objectives in and out of the courtroom. He effectively uses structured communication and presentation skills in negotiation, persuasion and argumentation. Joshua develops deep and lasting client and professional relationships upon which he relies as the foundation of his successful practice.

In his commercial and civil litigation practice, Joshua has worked tirelessly to develop and hone his advocacy skills, which he puts to use when appearing before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and Ontario Court of Appeal, as well as before administrative boards and tribunals, at both the provincial and federal levels. He is also a strong proponent of alternative forms of dispute resolution and represents clients in mediations and arbitrations. Joshua has developed a broad and diverse dispute resolution practice, with a focus on the following areas: asset realisation, including the collection of significant secured and unsecured debts; creditors’ and debtors’ rights; real estate litigation, including commercial tenancy law; mortgage enforcement; and contract and shareholder disputes; among others.

Joshua founded Freeman Legal in the spring of 2019, after leaving a prominent full-service business law firm in downtown Toronto, where he was a Partner in its Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group. He is excited to continue to serve his clients in a more bespoke and client-centric manner, putting them and their needs first and ensuring their attainment of great results more efficiently.

Joshua presently serves as both a Coach and an Advisor in the Law Society of Ontario’s Coach and Advisor Network (CAN), through which he supports other lawyers’ in establishing and/or enriching their practices and assists counsel in addressing substantive and procedural issues related to their clients’ files.

Joshua was called to the Ontario Bar in 2008.
